Should I turn on heat lamp?

It's 40 degrees, I live in South Carolina, and I have Wyandottes. Should I turn my heat lamp on now?

The breed was bred in upstate New York, intentionally to be hardy in zero weather long before Thomas Edison invented the light bulb. In short? No way. Save your electric bill. If they weren't hardy back then, you'd not even have Wyandotte's today, they'd all be extinct.

We all are still learning, that's a huge part of the joys of chicken keeping.
