A snake killed one of my chicks in the run which didn’t seem to bother the other 9. Next night it killed one in the coop. Now the eight left act like they hate to go in the coop at night but go barely inside the door and pile up in the corner. Is this from fear of the snake? Would it help if I put a dim light in the coop. As I had just taken their red heat lamp out. These birds have been allowed outside for about a week and a half, they are 6 weeks old.

Welcome To BYC

A dim light may make them a little more comfortable going in, but it's best to secure your coop to prevent the snake from coming in.

I'd catch the snake and do away with it.
