I would really like to get to know more music like this; Any suggestions? It might be political incorrect but I don't know a better word; strugling people/slave songs. It does not have to be American-rooted. But I really love songs from the soul. Songs that were not made from 'Let's make a hit' but were born due to struggles in life. You can feel and hear the difference.
