The AMERAUCANA thread

Pics
I took some pictures last night of my bantams to study typing and comparing type between them. They need work in the depth department, but otherwise I am pretty happy with them. I have eggs in the incubator from the black boy, Angus. Can't wait to see what he and 007 (his favorite pullet) create! I just love the pretty boys! 😍

Thank you! 😍 She’s our new puppy we got last weekend ☺️❤️

She’s a blue and tan French Bulldog and I’m obsessed with her 😁 Our older dog Koda isn’t quite sure if she’s fun or if he should be jealous 😆

Thanks I think I get it now! but, your saying this is not a pure bred Ameraucana right?

Okay last question I promise! You are saying that my easter eggers where just two kinds of Ameraucanas bred, like a silver and brown red for example which they sell as Ameraucanas, but are actually easter eggers? Or is it just one parent is an Ameraucana and the other isn't?

The hatcheries have bred their own lines so long now it’s just mixes to mixes at this point so they’re all EEs

It’s confusing because there are no hard rules about what you call mixes in general. Hatcheries do what they will to sell eggs. I don’t know what Murray McMurrey does so I can’t say for certain what yours is composed of or should be called.

For examples -

Silver Ameraucana x Brown Red Ameraucana = Mixed color Ameraucana (hatcheries may call it an Ameraucana, Americana, or Easter Egger—some Ameraucanas will call them project Ameraucanas if they are purposely breeding certain colors to try to create a new color/variety)

Silver Ameraucana x any other breed = Easter Egger (hatcheries will call them Americanas or EEs)

Silver Ameraucana x Silver Ameraucana = Silver Ameraucana

Yeah, what they said. Most times it’s mixes of mixes crossed with mixes and you will get any color egg depending on the cross genetics from the mixed birds. Thus the moniker Easter Egger.
