I am surprised you have snakes at all with your winter temps. of course they are all probably 6' under during winter.So far the biggest snake I've seen evidence of in the yard was about 3' and it was just a garter snake. I don't have any babies to worry about and the ducks kill snakes that size. We have corn snakes in the swamp (I've been told, never seen one) which as I understand means we don't have to worry about rattlers (the only poisonous snake in this area).

what about hatcheries in Pa? then they wouldn't have to travel so far??

I think so too and they are so precious.this last batch I put nine eggs into lockdown, only three hatchedno idea what went wrong. I guess smaller batches are friendlier cause there's less of them to bond with.
