To lay or not to lay

I have notice that some of my hens are staying a long time on the nest. And their usually eggs from other hens in there. Is it like going to the bathroom and having to wait. I usually scat them out to retrieve the eggs when I know they have been there for awhile. Whats up with that?

mine do that too, but mine are in the process of laying when they do that, it takes time to pass the egg. So I just leave them be and they will move when they are done laying it unless of course the hen has gone broody!!
