For those of you interested in the Trader Joe’s fertile eggs and whether you can actually hatch chicks from them, I have 10 out of a dozen that have made it to lockdown!

Day 21 for my eggs was yesterday and not a single chick pipped. Which I was fairly shocked by because my last batch of incubated eggs pipped on day 20 with the same incubator on the same settings. It doesn’t seem like any internally pipped either so I decided to candle a few this morning (day 22). The eggs I candled are still alive and moving and have veining but the growth development seems delayed for 21/22 days old. Has anyone seen this before? I’ve heard refrigerated eggs can be slow to develop.

They do look way under developed.

It's true fridge eggs can take longer.. I've not had ANY luck hatching them myself but have seen others get SOME results.

The age of the eggs themselves also can delay hatch.. it's stated by one hour delay per day of egg age before setting.

Too funny to see all the irrelevant marketing terms used on that package of eggs.. hormones and antbiotics are illegal in the US these days.. so even eggs that aren't marketing it will still meet that statement.

I was fairly shocked by because my last batch of incubated eggs pipped on day 20 with the same incubator on the same settings.
Did you calibrate them either time? Even pperfectly functioning bators may need adjustment between hatches in my experience.

Keep humidity high.. the longer they go the more likely evaporation/deydration.. Though it seems unlikely, still life often finds a way!

As part of your final report on this hatching adventure.. please tell us what the date on your eggs was before setting, Maybe how far the farm they came from is away from your TJ store (ie transportation distance), and how much they cost you, along with how many make it, or any other details that might be intersting.. thank you!

Another thread about incubating TJ eggs, in case you wanna glance at it..

Happy hatching! :fl

I did check the temp both times before setting eggs. Factory instructions recommended and are automatically set at a temp of 99.5 but my incubator seemed to be one degree off each time so I adjusted it to 100.5

My humidity I kept between 45-55 until lockdown. At lockdown I tried to keep it between 65-70 however I will admit it crept up a little over 70 a few times. Currently it’s sitting at 67.

I can’t remember the exact date the eggs were packaged but I remember it being 5 days from the day I bought them and then I let them sit out for 12 hours to bring them to room temp. I lost 2 at the very beginning. One by day 3 and the other by day 5, the rest seem to be growing like champs just at a slower rate 🤷🏻‍♀️ I also spent $3.99 for the dozen.

And I do remember I set them in the evening so the end of today would technically be the end of day 21
