Treat or Don’t Treat?

For pet birds, do you treat your birds, when disease, and illness, arise, or do you put down, and don’t treat?

Welcome. I think it depends on the species and the problems. My budgies or finches I generally don't. If my almost 30 year old parrot had a problem I would seek out a vet.

It can also depend on whether there are vets in your area that will see birds. It's all a personal decision.

It depends on the illness, it's severity and prognosis.
I always try to treat the injured.

I always try to treat if possible. If it's not possible (i.e. a fatal wound) I'll put them down as quickly and humanely as I can.

I don't really have pet birds, they are for food.
Depending on the issue, I may treat or I may euthanize.
They are not getting any antibiotics or other meds,
and they most certainly are not going to the vet.

I always try, at the very least, unless my pets are beyond help. Or treating whatever is amiss is too painful for the bird... or too painful for my wallet, sometimes. But I have funds set aside for these emergencies. I have several pets (dog, cats, chickens, husband), and I'd rather avoid choosing between love and money.
