Hi everyone! Im hoping I can get some advice on what's going on with my Remy's comb. As so many if us have, we've had quite a cold snap. It got down to -6 here. The girls were all in the coop during the coldest parts of the week. Its back up in the 30's now and will be in the 60s by end of week. Crazy! I've attached pictures of Remy's comb. It's tri-colored. It looks like bacon! I haven't touched it. She is acting completely normal in every other way. Is this frostbite? It's not black. Any ideas?

That is frostbite. No need to treat it, and do not handle or massage the comb. It will heal eventually, and the comb could become rounded off. It takes a week or two to see what the damage will be. Make sure that he is drinking and eating enough.

That's what I was afraid of. Thank you for your help. I'll let it be. Will it be painful for her? Is a baby aspirin a good way to treat the discomfort?

It does seem to be painful for them- I notice roosters take a few days off crowing when they get frostbite. If you're still having cold temperatures, bringing him indoors for a few days while the worst passes may be some relief to him. Unless he's so depressed he's not eating, I wouldn't give aspirin.

Thanks, its going to be in the 60s soon. I'll watch her eating and drinking to make sure she's getting plenty. It's hard to observe them during the week. Its al.ist dark by the time I get home from work. I'll know more this weekend. The really cold stuff has moved out. Tonight is the last night below freezing. Then it's 50s up to 60s by the weekend.
