What did you do in the garden today?

I love Baker Creek. They took a "break" over the holidays, but emailed all their existing customers to tell them that.

If I'm ever near Mansfield, MO, I plan to stop by and visit.

Oh, fair warning: Their catalog is full -- FULL! -- of garden porn.
My knee almost jerked again, but logic told me I have too many tomato varieties sprouting, so I stopped myself.

I do small batches of 5 at a time and work with what come up. I finish planting 5 seeds of the Orange Peach tomato I got from Baker Creek. I hope they sprout.

The first thing I do when I wake up, is look at my tomato babies and give them a hug. :love

Instead of doing the Florida weave, I will just run one string on one side and use plastic hanging clips to support each branch. My plastic clips have two nobs that clamp the string to prevent it from sliding, but when clipping it side ways I use only one of the nobs and close the clip on top the string with the branch or stem.

Of course I am many pages of posts behind. I thought of you all on this thread though as I was looking through some seed catalogs this evening. I received 6 catalogs already and I will not be surprised if more come. A few years ago I would receive no catalogs at all. Its amazing how the marketing engines manage to find us gardeners.

Well, just saying hello! Enjoy the garden planning this year!

Good to see you around!

I think the greenish looking tomato is called a heirloom black pineapple tomato, not sure if its a pink Berkeley Tie Die tomato. Anyway, I had the seeds soaking in a glass petri dish and a white tail sprouted, so I put each one in a one inch rock wool cube.
The red tomato is about ripe and I will get seeds from it tomorrow. Its been sitting on my counter for a while and it is turning blood red.
Buying these expensive super market heirloom tomatoes is just as fun as buying seeds online...........

Gardeners you’re all an adventurous bunch. Does anyone here use sous vide as a cooking method?
I have a few times. You don't need all that fancy schmancy stuff they want you to buy spending 100's of dollars on pumps and crap.

If you are just cooking a few items for yourself and / or family, a deep fryer with an adjustable thermostat, that is cleaned out works well too. Fill it with water, set it to 130 or whatever you want it at, test with a thermometer to see that it's where you really want it, then put your food in. you will need something to weigh the bag down with, they ALL FLOAT. So a big heavy cup or something, let it set for some hours in there, occasionally pull it out turn it over and you'll know when its done.

I put all my spices in with the food then seal it up, that way it's cooking in just it's own juices. Chicken turns out wonderful and even a tough old bird, will fall off the bone.
