What is living here?

I thought it was rats to start off with but the holes are very large for rats. I put some bait out (chicken feed, sheep feed, cat food) just to see what they liked so I could later set traps, but it was not touched.
If anyone has any ideas I would be grateful!

Ground hogs? Prairie dogs? Gophers? Depends where you're located.

Do you have a game/trail camera? They work great at letting you know what's moving around in your yard.

Best thing to do is put out trail cam so you know what kind of visitors you have. Our neighbors brought their trail cam over and surprise, we have foxes scouting out our Taj-Ma-Cluck. Immediately a piece of spare lattice was put on the window so nothing could go thru the screen!
