It's when they have so many faults that they aren't good for breeding or showing. Nothing wrong with keeping them as pets though.

Pet quality is another way of saying low quality, basically a bird that shouldn't be bred. If the cockerels don't have five toes, that's a major fault

both silkies have 5 toes, the crossbreed smooth feathered one only has 4, thank you for the explanation you both are a very educated members

I think pet is a nicer way of saying poor or low quality.
