why do chickens stand on 1 leg?

I was observing chickens last night at a farm and I relized that some were standing on 1 foot a lot. How come?

I am going to remember this one for the zoo. People ask me quite often why the flamingos stand on one foot. (I'm a volunteer there). Do you think they believe the 'resting one leg' theory? LOL Thanks five!!

I think it's to give one foot a rest, sort of like how a horse will cock one foot, or a person will shift weight to one foot.

Usually, they do that in cold weather, to warm up a foot by holding it close to the body. Then they'll warm up the other foot.
