This is my 1995 Fisher Price Barbie ice cream parlor playhouse.
The house measures 48” long x 35” wide x 52” high, inside headroom is about 48”
Starting with the base build we purchased:
4 2x4x8
15 feet of 1 inch hardware cloth.
Deck screws and washers.
1 4x4 cheap OSB flooring panel.
4 L brackets
I attached the floor to the base with deck screws. I used L brackets to secure the house to the base. I also sealed the cracks with silicone, and secured the hardware cloth with screws and washers. I made the ramp out of an old wood panel and screwed on branches as the steps. The small area under the house is 4x4 with a 2 ft height.
For the playhouse upgrades I bought:
3 24x36" polypropylene sheets
1 box of hex head screws
1 piece of plexi glass
old plywood to make the nest box
1 old door knob
1 homemade curtain
2 wood blocks
1 wood roosting bar
1 50lb bag of sand
For cross ventilation I used a 1" drill bit to make holes. I also added holes to the polypropylene sheet above the nest box.
My husband graciously made the nesting box fit perfectly on the parlor table under the eggplant purple awning. I am not exactly sure how he uses his nest box making magic but, I do know he used old plywood, wood glue, wire tape on the corners, a bunch of measure 10 times cut once-ish. I still need to paint it.
I only have 3 hens so this is more than enough space for them to roost at night. The "run" is only 4x4 but they only stay in that area for a very short time. Its more like a holding area till I let them out in the AM.
here are the ventilation updates and higher roosting bar.
