Yes, a regular end cap works, but this is so much more fun!

Now the cap simply hangs around while I fill the feeder.

The "inventions" thread provided me with some outstanding ideas. I took the PVC feeder "idea" and added a twist of my own--a threaded clean-out plug cap, threaded clean out plug, and a chain to keep the cap from getting lost in the deep litter.
