I know how the B/B/S genetics work and I’ve seen photos of splash Barnevelders but I’m working towards the SOP for my standards so splash is something I avoid! Do you have photos?
I breed Barnevelders standard and first year using a Blue rooster! I’ve had so many breeds over the years and my Barnies are my favorite! Never had a mean rooster from them and my hens are super sweet and run up to me.
Here’s one of my cockerel. You can’t tell until they start feathering out. I have 2 incubators going with eggs all from my blue rooster so 🤞🏻I get some blues!!!!
I’ve have so many different breeds over the years and now I’m on year 3 of breeding Barnevelders and I’m so glad I chose them! They are by far my favorite.

It’s ~6x3 and I want the option to separate in case I have chicks different age groups in there for a bit. I’m going to start selling at our local swap and so I’ll be hatching every couple weeks and don’t want chicks that are a day or few old in with 2 week olds.
Chicks that I’m keeping will be...
Reasons for picking wood vs wire?! Any recommendations on which and why? At first I was thinking using a heat lamp wire would be easier but I think in my barn I can easily mount it to be in the middle
Finally after raising chickens for 6 years now we processed 4 of extra roosters for the first time. They were smaller, mixed breeds around 6months but I wanted to make use out of them. We ended up cutting the spine out and spatchcock (is that the right way to say that?!) since they were small...
