What did you do with your flock today?

It's Hatch Day in the office! I work for Penn State Extension, and out 4-H team is running an embryology in the classroom project - we always set a few extras just in case of catastrophes in the shcools.

What did you do with your flock today?

Nope, definitely soldier fly larvae. My hens prefer them over mealworms.

What did you do with your flock today?

I'm late in posting, but my soldier fly order from Exotic Nutrition arrived on Saturday. A 10 lb bag is HUGE! Also, Hazel Bean is enjoying the dandelion treats I got her as an add-on.

Watered the hens and rabbit. Shoveled. Watered the hens and rabbit again. Shoveled again. Watered the hens and rabbit again. Shoveled again. Watered the rabbit a final time. I will be so happy when this cold snap breaks.

What did you do with your flock today?

My hens are out of Soldier Flies as of yesterday morning. They have not been shy about holding me accountable for the "Time of Famine" :D Sorry to tell them that the next order is on hold till the next pay day LOL. They'll have to make do with a cabbage for now. (I usually order from Exotic...

What did you do with your flock today?

Out of my 10 pullets (Townline Hatchery), only my white OE has been laying so far. She started early at 18.5 weeks. My black OE isn't showing any signs yet. The combs have been really redding up on everyone else, but no action. Until today, that is! One of my GLW started squatting today ❤...

What did you do with your flock today?

My oldest pullets are 16 weeks tomorrow. My EE should start laying in a couple of weeks, with everyone else following soon after. I ordered some aspen nest pads and some fake wooden eggs today (kelly green and white ones, so I can tell them from the real ones). Last night I dreamt about...

What did you do with your flock today?

I moved my 6 week old chicks to a bigger brooder in the run. They had been in a smaller cage in the coop, but the stench from the constantly spilled food was too much. They are much happier with triple the space and I am much happier with a fresher coop for my big girls.. My 12 week-olds are...

What did you do with your flock today?

That's encouraging to hear. I zip tied it all the way around. As long as we don't get a huge gale, it should stay put!

What did you do with your flock today?

Put the tarp on the run today. I'd like to roof it eventually, but I already overshot my budget for this project (lumber is ridiculous!). I got a super heavy-duty tarp, and am hoping it lasts at least a year.

What did you do with your flock today?

Sat with my chicklets (8 weeks) this morning while they got their Saturday morning treats (soldier flys). Noticed all my Wyandottes combs are starting to get purpley red, and little unicorn bumps are coming in. I should soon know if any of those little stinkers are cocks. They are the...

What did you do with your flock today?

Chicklets all put themselves to bed tonight with no help from me ❤. 6 1/2 weeks old, and this is only their 4th night out in the run. Prodigies, every last one of them LOL.

What did you do with your flock today?

Chickies got their first real look at the outside world yesterday evening. They will get to put actual feet on the ground this weekend when the roof is finished on the run. (5 week old Townline chicks)
