This is my guy at 6 weeks…saying mine is a cockerel because he started crowing. Sounds more like a girly scream but definitely a attempt at crowing. Hopefully he will sound a bit more masculine as he gets older.

7 weeks and wattles - ✅

Yes, this is an easy one - cockerel for certain. This breed isn't known for much wattle growth - it isn't uncommon to have fully developed hens with microscopic wattles. Typically if you see any at all in younger chickens, they are most certainly a cockerel.

Not something you should count on in the slightest.

They are a masculine chicken in terms of their flock presence - also very confident and have great showmanship. But their crow is just barely above that of a bantam.
I ordered all pullets. He will be the only rooster in a coop with 6 Polish, 9 blue Cochins, 7 silver laced Cochins and 2 12 year old light Brahmas. 🤷‍♀️

A lucky man.

I don't like to stereotype breeds, but our experience here with all of our polish cockerels and roosters is they mate a lot. I know all rooosters can be this way, but the Polish are real go getters.

Whenever we put them into the breeding pen, we usually are just going for a specific pair, but will have at least 3 other hens in there. After a week with a single hen and rooster, she will look a mess.

😬. Thank you for the warning. Right now he is very attached to me and comes running when I enter the coop or run and follows me everywhere. Hopefully with so many girls and the two old ladies to put him in his place, he will behave. If not I do have a front room in the coop for time outs.
