Hi everyone. I am in Northern Cali, SAC more precisely.

Is anyone going to the ElDorado fair poultry show?
Has anyone ever been? How is it? Do they feature a lot of chicken breeds? Are there lots of chickens for sale? I've never been to a poultry show, so not sure on what to expect.

Also the calendar say poultry show at 8AM??? THAT EARLY FOR REAL?

The fair is this coming Wednesday.

2 bantam barred rock roosters (1 for sure is crowing).
1 bantam minorca rooster
1 OEGB buff rooster
1 Old English hen

I've never been to a poultry show either & don't even know if our Southern Calif area ever has them. During Newcastles or AI outbreaks I know past shows around the country were canceled in past years. If you ever do go to a show take a lot of pics and post them plz

Faverolles are so cute! I love gentle temperament breeds but w/ reports from owners that Faverolles are prone to be bullied in spite of their large size and not known as too smart I decided not getting them for our backyard. We free range our backyard limit of 5 hens/no roos so we needed quick-moving quicker-thinking breeds that weren't penned up. Also larger heavier breeds eat more yet lay fewer eggs per week. My last decision was that I thought our merciless So Calif heatwaves would not suit such a fluffy bird.

But still, I think Faverolles are a gorgeous cute-faced and beautiful breed. I happen to love feather-footed breeds w/ 5 toes w/ beards and muffs. Faverolles are such a different bird from what one considers popular. Kudos to anyone who keeps this breed from extinction.

Years ago I fell in love w/ feather-footed, vulture hocked, no-comb, triangle-crested B/B/S Breda but w/ a small gene pool and lack of customer interest most breeders phased them out. The B/B/S weren't hardy and none of mine lived past 2 years .

Our Cuckoo Breda -- this Cuckoo variety was larger, very statuesque, & hardier than the BBS variety and she had a much longer lifespan
