I saw one once years ago ground feeding beneath the feeders here in NM. I had never seen one before, had to pull out my bird ID book to be sure! I have never seen a Painted Bunting, it's on my bird bucket list! Glad you got to see one!We are in their resident/breeding range, and I have seen 3 or 4 in my entire life - I spend a lot of time outdoors and have seen a few birthdays. I've seen one painted bunting - spectacular!
