Even though my spouse and I had family chickens when we were growing up, and have some general knowledge of chickens, since it’s been a few decades since having chickens, we consider ourselves at the beginning level of chicken growers.

At this time, we don’t have any chickens. We are watching a number of Oak Adobe’s and others YouTube videos, as well as reading articles from our state’s Extension Service.

We plan to have a mixed flock of about 25 birds comprised of Rhode Island Reds, Dominiques, and Buff Orpingtons.

Both of us have fond memories of our hens singing… not just the egg song, but the happy chirping/clucking song. We also remember the roosters crowing… and laughing when the young roosters were just learning to crow! We are looking forward to having the rich colored yolks that come from free range hens. We hope to become a bit more self sustaining.

Our other interests include container gardening of vegetables, Suffolk sheep and Corgis. We also enjoy spending time with our family, church as well as biological family, enjoying God’s creation, etc.

We are both retired and live in a 1940’s New Deal house and small farm in Eastern Montana. Our children are grown and pursuing their own lives. We have a number of grandchildren and one great grandchild.

We found BYC due to the recommendation of Oak Adobe.
