Does anyone know why eggs are different colors and what determines the color? Does it do anything different to the egg?

Just curious.

Thanks for any help!

Are you talking about those really bright rusty red eggs...I have been wondering what breed of hen they come from.

It's all in the genetic makeup of the individual birds much the same way as skin color in humans is determined by our genetic makeup.

Unless you are eating the shells the exterior color of the egg has no affect on the interior qualities within. White, brown, green, or blue if the birds are fed and managed the same the white and the yolk inside the shell are going to be pretty much the same no matter what color the shell outside is.
