What did you do with your flock today?

Home and got some time in the nice weather and all the chickens look good and happy! Except for Blossom the sick one.

I was enjoying the bantam babies and casually glanced over my shoulder and one of my chickens was not a chicken at all…but a gray rat just happily eating some scratch with the chickens 😡😡😡 Once it registered it was a rat I yelled at it and it just looked at me like…what? So I made the pssst noise and it finally ran off…only to do this about 2 mins later—the little jerk!

So I got the hose and sprayed at it with the jet spray and it finally left, but dude was not at all scared of me 😑

I also moved a bunch of the babies that were WAY overdue to move out. They were very excited and freaked out all at once.

And poor little Blossom, the sick one. I don’t know what she needs to get better 😫

Was supposed to be leaving for a camping trip with the kids but some family stuff had us cancel it. My youngest leaves for college next month so not sure when we'll get the chance again.
Every days a scorcher here right now and we've hit that time of year when even the nights are hot. Chickens are handling it well. They're using their wading bowls and getting by. Its hot enough that the chickens don't want to leave their runs during the day. They'll come out to play in the morning and evening, but from about 10-4 or 5 they head back to their runs and won't budge out of them. I also have leaves scorching on some of my full sun plants that don't normally scorch. My plants and animals say its hotter then usual years though the thermometer seems about the same to me. No losses to the heat but I wish my vine cuttings I planted last fall would grow faster. Plant shade helps so much.
I’m sorry your camping trip was canceled! And that your hot and the plants and animals are hot! Yuck yuck! 😫 Grow faster plants!!

I have been gone for so long, I’m not even going to try to catch up. 🤣

So much has changed since I have been on here last. So if I repeat anything forgive me. I have sold almost all my Call duckling babies. I have a total of 4 extra girls, 2 of which I am going to sell but if they don’t sell I won’t be sad. I just hatched one single one a few weeks ago. Long story there, but a friend was able to give me 2 of her ducklings to give her company. Luckily if I sell that baby, which I probably won’t, those babies are the same age so my friend and I can sell them together. I also got a pair of Silver Calls (you can see them in the picture of all the whites before they were sold). And I was able to also get a pair of East Indies. I bought a pair of the EID but about 20 min from leaving the ladies house the male died. I have no idea why but he didn’t look good when I picked them up. I was hoping I would have time to help him and I didn’t. But I was able to find a male.

I had a Turkey hatch, but she ended up being the only one and was with some duck babies. So she was a turkey duck. Unfortunately, she passed away. And we have no idea. She was fine when I let them out of the house at 5:45am. Then at 9:20 she had passed. Luckily I was holding her. It was so fast and nothing stood out. I believe she had something happen with her heart or she was chocking on something. We do have now 4 turkeys from a hatchery we had ordered in February. Along with some more silver laced Wyandottes, RIR, and light Brahma’s!!!

And I believe finally I now also have Sebastopol geese! There are 5 of them. 2 I got from one place and they are now about 4 weeks old. The other 3 are mother and children. Though the children are just as big as her now. You can for sure tell the difference when you pick them up 😂. I was able to trade some of my Pavlovaskaya babies and a pair of call ducks for the older 3. I just couldn’t take the momma and not the babies. Or take the babies and not the momma. It would have broken my heart. Now way to know the younger ones sex yet but I will soon enough.

Oh one more thing, I have another Call setting on more eggs. Hoping this is the end for the year.

So good to hear from you again. You've had quite a lot of changes in your flock, and good to hear you are closer to your goal.

I got some fun pictures of some of my babies today! They’re all so pretty 😍
