What could be the cause of this purple and swollen wattle on our buff Orpington hen? She is 4 years old this Spring. We have not seen any other symptoms. I did see a gray bump on her neck between the wattles in the morning, but I couldn’t do anything at that moment with her. I went this afternoon and it was gone, but the wattle is still purple and swollen. I thought the bump looked like a gray full tick. But I couldn’t look at it very closely - my daughter brought her into the house where I was cooking and I had guests so I had her bring the chicken back outside.
Now I need all the help I can get.
I thought it was a tick, but it was gone later whatever that was. And the hen still has swollen and purple wattle. So then I thought maybe Fowl cholera from what I quickly looked up.
What is it? What caused it? Cure or treatment? Outlook? What should I do with or for the rest of my flock? Prevention?
