Accountant Quits Day Job and Starts a Chicken Farm
Paul Grieve, a former accountant, cofounded Primal Pastures, which raises free-range chickens based on Salatin’s...
I used to be able to go to my profile page where there was an "Images" option that let me get to images I have previously uploaded. I don't see that option anymore.
Is that broken or a feature change?
I have 4 hens. 2 that will be 2 years old in a few weeks. The other 2 are just over 6 months. Each is a different breed and each has a distinct egg from the others.
My 2 year old black sex link laid a somewhat oversized and slightly misshapen egg about a week ago and has not laid another egg...
I have 4 chickens. Two are approaching 2 years old. The other two were came along last August.
I have 2 nest boxes in the coop.
One of the younger hens will occasionally lay her egg in a random spot on the ground in the run. Since the older two have a propensity to be bossy and unkind, I...
Is there such a thing as my hens eating too many egg shells? I switched from layer feed to all-flock just before my 2 hens started to molt, as I'm also introducing two more not-yet-laying pullets into the flock. I keep a container of oyster shell available. They don't go to town on it, but it...
My hens are 20 months old. (Golden comment and black sex Link.) They are losing some feathers in their chest area. Otherwise they seem fine. I didn't think this is where molting would start, but based on their age, I think it makes the most sense.
I'm sure this is different for everybody based on so many factors. I'm cleaning out the garage and am convinced that I'm saving too many scraps that are too small. So, I'm curious about what works for others. How big must something be for you to save it?
hardware cloth
plywood

I have three hens. On Friday evening, two of them were acting strange - not interested in food, just standing around. When i checked on them in the late evening, they had stayed in the (secured run) and did not roost in the coop. I saw one eating the remnants of an egg that had to have been a...
I'm working on building a small tractor/isolation coop to use as a quarantine coop if we add to the flock (or if otherwise needed). @U_Stormcrow put together this drawing in another thread started by @Sunshine_Amy
I running with this idea a little bit ... but have it reversed. I want to use...
I don't know what happened, but my hen looks to have injured her beak. There was slight bleeding on the side and it looks a little crooked. She is eating okay and not showing signs of distress. What should I do?
My pullets will be 17 weeks on Tuesday. Two red-sex links (golden comet) and 1 that's either an easter egger or a black sex link.
The nesting boxes in their coops have been blocked off since they moved in. When should I open them? Should I wait for signs that eggs are imminent? Should I...
The little guy figured out how to crow. Now the township says he has to go.
I'm not far from the Pittsburgh airport and am willing to drive some to get him to you. We'd like to find him a good home quickly if we can.
Hatched on 3/30/21 and came to us by way of TSC on 4/2. He should be 15...
So, I had a great idea to improve safety near some low hanging roof pieces. I don't want kids running past and catching the edge of the steel roof, or tripping over the ground anchor.
I added a steel t-post (free - on hand) and wrapped it with a swim noodle ($0.79).
Then, I slipped 4" PVC...
For a while now I've been piggy-backing on this thread looking for help guessing my silkie's gender. (by local ordinance, I must re-home any roosters)

Anybody who hasn't already checked out @TheAlrightyGina 's work on...
This beauty is 9-weeks old. Snagged from the TSC Easter Egger straight run bin. I'm thinking pullet because of the single row comb. I appreciate your thoughts, as I'm only allowed hens by local ordinance.
I've seen a number of occasions where people express interest in protecting their privacy. (good and smart) However, they have a unique username that google quickly shows the same username used across many internet platforms. So, if you don't want somebody to see your persona across these...
so, my new coop is just about done and it's time to move the chickens in. I painted the inside of the coop white ... which makes it easy to see there are quite a bit of red chiggers/mites already crawling around inside the empty coop. The coop is on the smaller side, and up off the ground 30"...
I expect to have my 4 chicks in a covered run (apx 60 sq ft) sometime next week. My plan is to go the route of semi-deep litter(cold composting). However, the girls will start with grass in the run. How long should I expect the grass to last before I need to start adding wood chips, etc...
I'm getting ready to cut corrugated steel roofing for my small coop. Here is an edited picture from the seller of the plans I'm using as my guide.
The coop is a shade bigger than the plans called for, and I'll be making the roof a bit bigger to which will be one way I'll be adding additional...
