I’m not allowed to have roosters where I live in suburbia. If the powers that be heard them, they would ban laying hens and allow roosters!

I’m glad it went well! I start gagging just looking at pills that size, it amazes me that chickens will just swallow them!

There was no link to giving pills, just a description in Azygous’ post. Basically, you pull down gently on her wattles to open her beak, then just slip the pill in! She’ll swallow automatically if you get it in past her tongue so she can’t spit it out 😊

You and your sister did the best you could for your little girl, it was just too much for her body to handle ☹️. You know what to look for and can give a pill as soon as you see the symptoms again, I think it’s best to give the whole pill.

I’m certain nothing you gave her caused her to pass away, chickens can have Tums as well as the calcium pill, the pill just works better. The vitamins also won’t hurt them. I double yolk egg is essentially 2 eggs laid at once that end up in 1 shell, they happen with new layers. Unless that’s...

You will all sleep well tonight 🙂 To answer your other question, you could give her poultry cell or rooster booster in her water too. They’re vitamins and couldn’t hurt.

I’m guessing this is the second egg and it pushed the first one out? As long as they have oyster shell available that’s all you can do. Many folks feed layer feed once all their girls are laying, but I prefer All Flock (plus oyster shells) because it’s higher protein. They need grit as well but...

You’ll be surprised how easily chickens will swallow a pill hat would make a human gag! The calcium should help her, I think the dose is once a day 😊

Also, I wouldn’t put any solutions up the vent (unless someone more knowledgeable than me advises it), I don’t think that will help her any. Can you keep her inside where it’s warm and dark for the night so she’ll be more comfortable?

We were all new to this once 🙂 One of my BOs had a prolapsed vent, I thought she was dying. She was fine, it took a week for the prolapse to stay in and she laid the entire time (which didn’t help). Your baby will be OK.

There could be 2 coming back to back, that would be harder on her. Poor girl ☹️

She’s trying to lay the egg, that’s normal as long as it doesn’t come out more and swell 🙂

Thanks for the pic, that looks like she’s trying to pass the egg, I don’t think it’s prolapsed at least not yet. Calcium will help her pass the egg and hopefully she’ll be fine sfter 🙂
