There is many reasons, the general look of tightly feathered birds, some standards call for barbless down feathers. Plus like you say it is helpful in the warm climates of asia. And tight, hard feathers are helpful in combat.

The pullets are looking good. I need to start using grass clippings, but I should get a chipper too since my woodland died.

I bought a little push mower with a mulching kit. Makes keeping pens full of bedding a breeze.

This one? This is the dominant stag out of this batch:

The stag below is my favorite, he's the second largest. I like his shrimp tail. I couldn't get a good pic of him. Its the heat of the day and they're preferring to stay in the shade of the coop:

Here's one of my Liege x Cracker x Aseel mommas with a free-range brood of 10. I don't consider these "terrorfowl" but this line is shaping up to be my best in terms of free-range resilience against both disease and predator. There's a second hen with 5 a bit older than these and several others sitting on clutches.
