Kind of a dumb question.

I got a standard size chicken and four babies from a lady I work with. We had discussed the rooster next door. Well she mentioned after we have everybody at home that, when the babies get old enough to get out of the brooder that they might go visit the rooster. There is about and acre size lot between us and him. I'm worried they might go and not come back. I don't want to have to keep them penned all the time. Could this really happen? Should I be worried?

I dont believe there will be a problem. By the time they are grown, and can free roam, they will know where to come home to roost. Now, just maybe, the rooster will come home one day!

Good luck with your new momma and babies!

Thanks a bunch!! That makes me feel better. This is my first time with chickens. So I pretty green. I did go buy Storey's guide to raising chickens and I read it from cover to cover.

One of our hens kept going next door to "visit" the rooster, and one day he did follow her home.
Then he wouldnt leave, lol.
