I refuse to get animals at auctions. Everyone I've known who's ever had an illness suddenly pop up on their farm has traced it back to auctions.

I've never bought a chicken from an auction, but I've gotten a few from swaps before. The best I have accidentally got from a swap was our Tinta Tints. They were sold to us as Jersey Giants but were obviously no giant. Them things was some of the best layers we ever had.

Same here, never bought one at an auction. I sure loved getting Easter Eggers sold as Ameraucanas at the feed store though.
