I would like to start a small wyandotte breeding flock this summer. I already have two SL hens and I plan on adding a few blue laced reds to the group. I'll likely use a BLR rooster. If I cross the BLR and SL what will end up with? I'm also interested in the other vareties so if anyone knows the genetics it would be very helpful.

If you are not an experienced breeder, breed like with like. Decide what you want to breed and stick with the variety and breed. You can experiment but unless you are ready to hatch hundreds of eggs and get rid of countless males and females; stay with one breed and variety.

So...since were on the subject and I am not an experienced breeder...If I wanted to have a little flock of gold laced Wyandottes(GLWs) could I just breed GLW males to GLW females? What is all this reversion stuff? I currently have 2 little GLW hens and one roo. The roo so far looks great, and of the 2 girls the combs are both smooth and one is black? and one is pale. (it looks like there may be some black in the feet too?) I have tried to follow all the genetic info but I need it simply put. Will I get GLWs with these as parents? if so will i have to rear a few dozen first? Is there a GLW web somewhere?

Yes if you mate glw to glw that's what you will have. Check out feathersite and get a look at what they should look like and breed for that. Where did you get these birds? I've been reading about alot of wyandottes not having correct combs this year. The legs should be yellow. Mike

These birds came from privett about 5 weeks ago. I wondered about the smooth combs... But also have read this is better for fertility? I was told locally that I could possibly get all roo's if I wasnt careful about what I was doing...Her is my little boy, unsure about comb styles as I am new to this...He looks the best in terms of breed specs. where does the combs pass, dad or mum?
