    Barnevelder is broody again!

They're adorable! Definitely a huge wing color difference! We had some blood but not much at all thankfully, just a minor scratch. Nutmeg has definitley moved up and the pecking order in my flock has changed as well. I love the names! We have a similar theme!

    Barnevelder is broody again!

@ChookaPete - I have been meaning to update you! I ended up getting day-old chicks and that very same morning, I put them underneath Nutmeg and she immediatly accepted them. She was excited when she heard their peeping. She started talking to them right away and pushing them back underneath...

Question for those of you with sweeter heaters in coop

Hi! I know this is a late response, but I use the ceiling mounted sweeter heaters above my roosts and they worked wonderfully all winter. No one tried to roost on top of them. My roost bars are already up higher above a droppings board and the heaters were up higher as well. How did the...

Well my hen can’t wear a hat..so what do I do?

I just think it has to be my boy. I do see him surf some but he mostly still grabs on. I have some so I'll try to get it onto them! Thanks :)

Well my hen can’t wear a hat..so what do I do?

This is so good to know! I have a Black Australorp with a tiny little bald spot just behind her comb and I have an Olive Egger with the same. I do have a rooster and I keep thinking that's what it's from, but sometimes worry.

    Barnevelder is broody again!

Oh! Very cool!!! They're not one I hear much about here in Northern New York State. Nutmeg is being so good! I just wish I could get these chicks to her. Today is day 17. The breeder said to check tomorrow mid day on the hatch.

    Barnevelder is broody again!

I have never heard of that breed before (the Hy-Line Brown)! Where are you located? Nutmeg has taken very well to her maternity wing! I moved her on Saturday evening. I let her out yesterday, and she went outside for a little while. When she went back inside, she went to the nesting box...

    Barnevelder is broody again!

That's so sweet! Mine just want that top nesting box or the corner of the coop. Screw the IDENTICAL nesting box! ha. I like the name Chamomile, it fits in with my girls! I'm still nervous about the transfer to the Maternity Wing (aka nursing pen). She vehemently refused to sit in it last...

    Barnevelder is broody again!

She was out yesterday morning, so the morning after her first full night in the nesting box. My cameras malfuncitoned so I don't know when she was out during the day at all. I went to put eggs under her after work, and there were three from my other girls she was sitting on, so I assume she...

    Barnevelder is broody again!

Limu sounds just like Nutmeg! Her birthday is April 17, 2024. I never have luck finding anyone within a reasonable driving distance to get hatching eggs of breeds I'd like to have. The way the coop is set up, I am going to have to move her nest *sigh Thanks and you too!

    Barnevelder is broody again!

There is a mat in there, they’re never on metal on the bottom, and I gave her aspen nesting pads. She ripped up all of the material and made a nest. It’s really small for chicks and if one falls out, it won’t be able to get back to her so I do have to move her to a new nest. She’s also low on...

    Barnevelder is broody again!

No, it’s mounted. She has a bunch of aspen nesting pad stuff in there. She seemed fine this morning. I put the temp stick in there with her and it got down to 25.2 in there and the humidity got up to 70.4 but that was this morning. She hasn’t gotten out yet to eat so or drink or relieve herself.
