I’ve had all different breeds and many mixed breeds. None of my ducks truly like being picked up. A few will tolerate it more than others, but would still rather I left them be. It’s just how ducks are, nothing personal.
My ducks will follow me, sit by me, eat from my hand.. but any approach...
I haven’t had my birdies long enough for that, yet.
But, we just passed the 2 year mark with no tragedies! And, I’m currently working on building a new, secure duck coop. AND my eldest boy is approaching 8 years of age. So.. Good chances, I hope, in the coming years, I’ll get to see him pass...
Yep, it’s normal. Ducks are very crazy. It can be dominance, but for my ducks, it’s usually play-mating. My girls were all-over each other during their first year, even with their 2 drakes. They’ve calmed down a lot since, but they will still play-mate occasionally.
I agree with cheezenkwackers, I’m thinking you may’ve mixed your duckies around.
I don’t see anything that screams “male” yet in any of your ducks. You should certainly be able to tell by voice now. You can upload a video of voices elsewhere, like to YouTube, and link it here.
I would say your...
Angel wing is something that occurs in young waterfowl when they’re first growing in their wings. So, she’s well past the age to develop that.
Her wing feathers do look rather ratty though, yes. I just had a ducky with similar-looking wings. Took her a long while to molt, but she finally did a...
Good replies here. I just want to add that eggs with thin shells, eggs that are oddly shaped, and eggs laid at weird times, more commonly occur in young ducks! And, ducks might lay weird eggs, or even stop laying, during the colder months. Their age and the time of year may be adding to, or even...
I agree, looks to be a Blue Runner, and they look closer to 3 weeks old, not 6. It’s too early to sex visually. Could possibly sex them by voice, but it may not be 100% reliable at this age.
You can upload a video of their voices to some other site, like YouTube, and then post a link to the...
I was super concerned about noise getting my 2 geese, but the noise has been fairly minimal. They honk the loudest when they’re excited, saying hello, or are upset / stressed about something. I can sometimes hear their loud honks from indoors, but it does not bother me like I thought it would...
Not necessarily. The crest is a deformity of the skull and can come with health issues. I have a few crested ducks, who are very healthy, but I personally would not choose to get more or breed for them.
Rather a Crested Blue Swedish due to the grey body.
The tuft, or “crest” on the head is a genetic deformity, usually inherited from a parent duck, but they can very rarely appear spontaneously, too. Typically, there’s only 1 crest, so I’d say him having 2 is extra rare.
