Pictures of chicken with damaged leg

When I removed the bandage there was some puss, but this seems like harder tissue, or else the bandage’s inner layers are still there

Hello, I don’t know much about this chicken, she may be a Cochin? Her leg had a growth that the previous owner pulled off, and asked me to clean and bandage. That was a few weeks ago, I found her again with the bandage still in her. I can’t tell if I got it all off, if this is new growth or...

    Re-introducing myself

Thanks!! I looked at the bumble foot posts, and I don’t think that’s what she has going on. It was more like an infected scab on her upper leg. I’ve flushed the wound, sprayed it with Blu-kote and re-wrapped it, she is acting normal other than avoiding too much weight on it. I have high hopes...

    Hello from Minnesota..former Oregonian

King Arthur! I may need to steal this and name his descendants after the knights! We love giving themed names, our biggest rooster is named Zeus, he has 4 wives right now: Hera, Demeter, Matis, and Thalis. There are endless name options for his offspring!

    Re-introducing myself

Hello all!! I am re-introducing myself, as there have been some huge changes in my bird raising life! I also was just notified that it’s my 1 year anniversary! I started by randomly bringing home a hen and her 6 chicks. I was NOT prepared! Today, I have a coop and run with 15 hens and a...

    It’s my first Day 20!

Also, I just candles them again, and can only see movement in one egg. Does that mean the other ones are in chick heaven already?

    It’s my first Day 20!

I got 2 silkie eggs, and 4 Rhode Island Reds from a neighbor for my broody hens on April 27. We candles the eggs on Thursday night and they seemed to be on point with developing, I’m so excited! Is there anything else I should be doing besides waiting??

Can 5 week old chicks roost without mom?

My brooder just left her chicks to go back to the roost in the coop. She started laying eggs 3 days ago, and I guess she was just done being mom. The babies are about 5 weeks old, I’ve put them on the roost next to her, they don’t love it. It’ll get down to 59 degrees tonight, should I bring...

    Is our chick dead?!

We held a lovely ceremony, and laid it to rest with our turtle, beneath the strawberry pots

    Is our chick dead?!

I have to head back to work, so I’ve placed it under a different broody hen, separate from the other hens and chicks, since they are starting to get up and explore with their other chicks. Hopefully that warm momma body will do the trick. Ugh, we’ve lost 3 chicks in the past, but they just...

    Is our chick dead?!

We bought them just hatched from a local farm and brought them home to be fosters for our broody hens, we don’t have roosters so our hens can’t have their own chicks. There 3, but on Monday before we could sneak them in to their new moms, I found this one away from the others, barely breathing...
