I have heard of eggs hatching up to 26 days so I always leave them until then but I haven’t really had luck with late hatches myself.
I was also told by the breeder I ordered from to do the dry hatch, never again!
I incubate mine without making any adjustments and have been hatching them out with Marans this year. Great hatch rates. My worst hatch rate was a dry hatch and for some reason the SFH were the only breed that struggled with that.
The chick is walking today, a little wabbly but she is figuring it out. The skin tag looks like it is drying up. I think it will most likely fall off. I will keep you posted.
I’ve never heard of a deformity like the three footed chick. How strange.
I would quarantine them both, separately and if you have others that came from the same place, do the same with them.
How old are they?
Any discoloration in their poop?
Is the comb pale or limp?
Try cooling them down and offering an alternative food source.
I got the eggs from a lady in North Idaho who has a flock of blue, lav and black Marans. This one is black. I have hatched from her before and had great hatch rates and no issues.
We ended up cutting it, it was a piece of skin that had formed around the foot During development. You could see where one of her toes had developed a crimp because of it. No bleeding or pain though she is still trying to figure out how to walk on it.
I just triple checked and there is no opening. The chick fell asleep in my hand while I was poking around at it and moving her foot so I would say it’s also not tender at all.
