The Easter Egger is not really a breed. They are relationed to the breeds Ameraucanas and Araucanas, then bred with many different breeds so they no longer fit either breed's standards. They usually have muffs and pea combs, but come in nearly every variety and color, some even have ear tufts or are rumpless. Each EE is different, but overall they are usually a smaller bird that lays pink, green, or blue eggs. They are normally friendly and calm, and their colorful eggs make them a popular choice in backyard flocks.

friendly and docile

Mercedes is a great hen. She is a bit skittish and flies out of the brooder, but she loves to be held. Can't wait to see her colorful eggs

Super friendly!
Pros: They love people, mine run up to me every time I walk in there
They're very cuddly, and mine really enjoy hugs
Cons: Rather loud if you don't give them attention right away
Mine tend to peck me if I don't pet them soon enough
Easter Eggers are one of the best "breeds" there are. I've had seven so far, and all of them have been super sweet. They're the first ones to greet me in the morning, and whenever I squat down, they run up to me for hugs. One of mine is blind, and she makes a LOT of noise if I go out there and don't say hi to her right away. Once I pick her up and snuggle her she quiets down instantly.

Amazing birds, five stars, would recommend!

I think they are probably pullets, at least the one in the front. usually on a rooster the tail feathers will have some curl to them. Not sure that they are EE's I have 5 and none look like this. the way the body is shaped they look a little like the body of a serama or hamburg. But I agree, we need better pics to really make a better guess.

I have an EE and one thing I noticed right away is the beard. The chickens in your picture do not have the beard that EE usually have. I have no clue on the sex.

These are my favorites!! (Thank heaven my other girls can't read so they'll never know). Their hawk like markings make them a little scary looking but their tufts add a comedic look. My little Savannah is always the first in my lap and really knows how to play it up for an extra treat. We were having what I thought was a great bonding moment, I could just feel the love as she looked at me and I looked at her, then she struck and tried to remove a mole. OWW!!

HAHAHA, I know that trick! I got a "kiss" one time when I was looking at my little darling Grace. She decided that those things on my face moving around must not be a mouth but worms and good eatin'. LOL. Learned my lesson!

I love them I had one that was like a baby it followed me everywhere and even sat in my lap. I miss him. I cannot wait til it warms up so that i can get more chicks.

I agree. I have 11 EE's and I really enjoy them. Like you said the EE rooster is very protective and looks after everyone.

I know about the flightiness. ): I have two of these little bantams that fly across my yard. Because I live in the suburbs, I worry about them scaling my 6 ft. fence and going into the neighbor's yard.

Looks like i am one of the very few ppl that doesnt have a problem with my EE's being flighty, they come up to me and are very curious about what i am doing, one is very nosey has to be right in the middle of what ever i am doing out in their yard, This all may be because i have 6 kids and we held them everyday for an hour as chicks.

I just got an easter egger that also looks like a little red tail hawk. She is already the favorite and is super sweet!

Koala (K-Bird) has become a much better hen after getting through the teenage rebelion. She has laid lots of nice green eggs, just as many as our BOs although our other EE has stopped altogether (3 weeks and counting) when the weather turned cold. I would like to change my reveiw from 1.5 stars to 3.5. Patience is rewarded.

How does that happen? It takes 25 hours for an egg to form! But hey, your EE's lay every day! Yeah! I wanted one but heard that there egg laying was so-so. Guess it varies.

Give her more time. She will. Mine where hatched June 17 and some started many months ago and one just started this last week to lay more than a egg here and there.

They are a lot of fun to have around. I'm glad you are enjoying them.I wish one of my Easter Eggers would go broody. I like them so much I kept a friendly EE roo that I let out once a week to join the girls free range. In the evening I lock him back up in his bachelor pad. I want to keep eggs fertile in case someone goes broody. I want to make more Easter Eggers! lol :)
