The Easter Egger is not really a breed. They are relationed to the breeds Ameraucanas and Araucanas, then bred with many different breeds so they no longer fit either breed's standards. They usually have muffs and pea combs, but come in nearly every variety and color, some even have ear tufts or are rumpless. Each EE is different, but overall they are usually a smaller bird that lays pink, green, or blue eggs. They are normally friendly and calm, and their colorful eggs make them a popular choice in backyard flocks.

friendly and docile
They are well-loved for their friendly and docile temperament, making them an excellent choice for backyard flocks, especially in family settings. Easter Eggers are hardy and adaptable to different climates, particularly cold weather, thanks to their small pea combs that are less prone to frostbite

I love how people are coming together to grow this community
Pros: Pretty pattern
Calm
Cute cheeks
Colorful eggs
Cons: Skittish and gets out of brooder
Mercedes is a great hen. She is a bit skittish and flies out of the brooder, but she loves to be held. Can't wait to see her colorful eggs

Super friendly!
Pros: They love people, mine run up to me every time I walk in there
They're very cuddly, and mine really enjoy hugs
Cons: Rather loud if you don't give them attention right away
Mine tend to peck me if I don't pet them soon enough
Easter Eggers are one of the best "breeds" there are. I've had seven so far, and all of them have been super sweet. They're the first ones to greet me in the morning, and whenever I squat down, they run up to me for hugs. One of mine is blind, and she makes a LOT of noise if I go out there and don't say hi to her right away. Once I pick her up and snuggle her she quiets down instantly.

Amazing birds, five stars, would recommend!

Our EE's range from Creampuff--who's scared to death of anything that isn't a chicken and won't let me within 10 feet of her--to Chipmunk, who would jump into my hands as a chick and is still one of my most easy-going and friendly birds. They're very sharp birds with keen survival instincts, great laying ability, and very healthy. They are also remarkable flyers--one night when Creampuff got locked out of the run before she could get in to bed, she just flew her way to the top of the coop and roosted there instead--a feat which would have been downright dangerous for any of my larger, heavier birds who probably would have gotten themselves strangled in the bird netting instead. It makes me feel a lot better letting them out to range when I know they can take care of themselves so well, and I love having their gorgeous blue and green eggs in my assortment..

i feel the same about my golden laced Cochin bantam(duckling!) there is a lot of personality packed into that tiny little body!

hi looking to start my flock i raised rhode island reds and the roos where just so mean! looking forward to their gentleness, where did you get yours! any washington or oregon breeders not much into shipping and americaunas in ladyrsanti and others do you find the nice egg colors from certain lines any in my area? or are yours perchased at the hatcherys? any welcome posts much appreciated! anybody near Vancouver washington have some chicks whose parents lay the bright egg colors? please email thanks!

My EE's/Ameraucanas were/are great! We had three two died.:( But two of them loved to be held! The one that's left will come when you call her name (or at least egnollege you) she loved to be snuggled and loves to fallow people around. I see what you mean by "crazy" though. My EE went crazy a couple years ago when she was two, it all started when we got new chicks and I wasn't spending as much time with her 'cause I was busy with the chicks. Now her soul desire is to make they little chicken miserable. She pulls out the their feathers, pulls on their wings, and just tortures them. Though I can honestly say she is the best and the most interesting chicken we've ever had, and she's a great layer!

I love my EE! I had 2 but one died when she was about 6 months old. The other is such a lover and always wants to bury her head in my hair at bedtime. She rests her head on my shoulder, snuggles into my hair, and goes to sleep! I always feel a little guilty when I extract her from my hair and close the coop door for the night.

I noticed mine were late to lay as well by several months over several other breeds. Once they get going tho it was 5-6 eggs a week every week. They do seem to be pretty mild in agressiveness towards other birds, tend to be low in the pecking order. Mine also tend to be spooky and just not as calm and friendly as other breeds I have either. Still, willing to put up with it for the pretty eggs.

Mine began laying at 5 months which surprised me because I have read so much about them being late bloomers. Mine lay pretty blue/green just about everyday. Both of mine are at the bottom of the pecking order too and are very timid with the other birds and tend to keep to themselves. They are people friendly and always come running to greet us. I wll always have them in my flock.

Hah! Funny enough, right after I posted this I went out and found a little greenish-gray egg in the nest... I guess life's full of irony...

They sound like a great breed! Thanks for your review, you have me interested.
Your daughter's names are fine. I once named a hen Dick (Richard) when I was very little. As well as a hen named Grape.

I have heard a lot about the Easter Eggers. I live in Spokane Washington and the only chickens I have ever had were Auracauna's (sp). I had never head of the Easter Eggers until I joined this web site. I would like to get some hens. I am trying Speckled Sussex for the first time and Red Star (red sex links) for the first time also. I usually have Black Sex Links and Wynnadotts. The rooster on my avatar was given to me. He is a big Barred Rock rooster named Billy Bob.

No, they are not. EEs are related to them, but Aracaunas are more rare b/c they are not "mutts" and difficult to breed. Look it up on here and see what the experts say.

I bought my girls from Tractor Supply. Although labeled 'Ameraucana' they are more aptly named Easter Eggers. Two of the lay Robin Blue eggs while the rest lay green and one pink (NOT Easter Egger standard but she has such a sweet personality I wouldn't think of parting with her). Although few will hop up into my lap, all of them are perfectly happy to groom my shoes and pantlegs when I sit out in the chicken yard.

I love their robin blue eggs! I really hope to have one that lays pink eggs one day too!
