The Easter Egger is not really a breed. They are relationed to the breeds Ameraucanas and Araucanas, then bred with many different breeds so they no longer fit either breed's standards. They usually have muffs and pea combs, but come in nearly every variety and color, some even have ear tufts or are rumpless. Each EE is different, but overall they are usually a smaller bird that lays pink, green, or blue eggs. They are normally friendly and calm, and their colorful eggs make them a popular choice in backyard flocks.

friendly and docile
They are well-loved for their friendly and docile temperament, making them an excellent choice for backyard flocks, especially in family settings. Easter Eggers are hardy and adaptable to different climates, particularly cold weather, thanks to their small pea combs that are less prone to frostbite

I love how people are coming together to grow this community
Pros: Pretty pattern
Calm
Cute cheeks
Colorful eggs
Cons: Skittish and gets out of brooder
Mercedes is a great hen. She is a bit skittish and flies out of the brooder, but she loves to be held. Can't wait to see her colorful eggs

Super friendly!
Pros: They love people, mine run up to me every time I walk in there
They're very cuddly, and mine really enjoy hugs
Cons: Rather loud if you don't give them attention right away
Mine tend to peck me if I don't pet them soon enough
Easter Eggers are one of the best "breeds" there are. I've had seven so far, and all of them have been super sweet. They're the first ones to greet me in the morning, and whenever I squat down, they run up to me for hugs. One of mine is blind, and she makes a LOT of noise if I go out there and don't say hi to her right away. Once I pick her up and snuggle her she quiets down instantly.

Amazing birds, five stars, would recommend!

I loved the names your daughter chose. To this day, as far as my kids are concerned, any and all Silver Laced Wyandottes are "Jessica" birds. ;) Buff Orpingtons are either "Daisy" or "Sunshine". Kids are awesome, aren't they? :D

A little late to the response, sorry! We did end up keeping the EE's, and they grew into beautiful layers. They are actually our best layers now that the Red Stars are getting older. 5 or 6 eggs a week. They are still incredibly stupid, though one has managed to get to the middle of the pecking order. The other, Nocci, is hopelessly incompetent, and even the other chickens realize it.

As you can tell by my avatar picture...I love Easter Eggers! The feed store told me they were Americauna but I've learned they are EE's. I have a flock of 8 birds, 2 each of 4 breeds. The EE's were the first to do everything, including always going to roost first each evening, and calling all the other girls in. Very friendly and smart!

It's true that Easter Eggers are not a true breed. They are generally a cross between an Ameraucana and any other breed. Therefore there is a huge variation possible in the color of their feathers. Besides green eggs, they can lay brown or pinkish ones depending on their parentage.

Yea, same here. They were they first to leave the coop and start roosting on the roost I made. They really put some character into the flock.

Mother Hen, I like EE's also and have two of them in my flock, almost 19 weeks old now. Still no eggs. How old was your EE when it first laid?

I have 10 EEs at 21+ weeks and up to 7 of them are laying. They started at 19 weeks. They are ahead of the 9 BA of which only 2 are laying. I would have a difficult time picking a favorite breed, but it blows my mind that the EEs are out producing the BAs at this early of an age. My last bunch of EEs didn't start laying til 26 weeks. They vary so much in temperment, Some will sqwack if I so much as walk near the nest and some will let me pick them up to check their band. Love'em all.

As much as I might love him....................when he attacked me in my own yard.....it would be like a dog of mine biting me.! LOL He would have to hold a foot. Not saying that I do that as a rule in fact I never have had to do it with my own... but I am not going to put up with that even from a beloved pet. I love my chickens but I also will not have them hurting me, my family or any friends

LOL, We have a Fancy Rosebud (our easter egger), Cherry Blossom, Princess Alli, Snow Blizzard and Steve. My husband named that last one. ; )

We have six that have started laying eggs but so far I only see green eggs. Don't they lay other colors too?

I have two EEs and one is very friendly while the other is hard to catch. The friendly one will follow me around the yard and do the egg squat when I approach it. They are 19 weeks old now and I am expecting a blue or green egg any day! I like my EEs, they are beautiful and robust birds and the smallest in my flock of large fowl. Supposed to lay good-sized eggs though.

I have two EE's also, and the friendliest one looks like yours. One started laying at 19 weeks and the other at 20 weeks. A blue egg from the friendly one, and a green egg from the more stand-offish one. The green-egger has no cheek puffs or beard, and its head is nearly black, with a small pea comb. Love these chickens!

I have 2 EE's and one of them is the queen in my flock and the other one is 3rd in pecking order. I have 2 BR who are two weeks older than them and they were at the top but at about 20 weeks things shifted. I also have a Russian Orleff, 2 RIR, 1 SS, 1 California White, 1 Americauna, 1 Iowa Blue and a Welsummer. I think I lucked out as my EE's are very alert and smart.
