Hey there @COChix :) Liking it down here. I've gotten pretty lazy though... no coop even started and no chicks ordered. (and a messed up web site here with no emojis etc.) Can't decide whether to go full out with a woodsman style or simple and easy hoop style. I've turned into a pretty good...
I don't think it matters nutritionally between mackerel and tuna but it matters in a major way to your wallet/purse! Tuna is way to expensive to be feeding to chickens!!
Not sure what the cost of the canned mackerel is @ the dollar store. I was paying I believe .89/can at walmart. I just drained it then chopped it up right in the can and shoveled it out into their trough. No hesitation at all and it was gone in minutes.
Hey there Margie. Even when I was there I never had to deal with the same winters you did... something about altitude! Sorry it's been a rough one for you. Hope you come out of it in spring in good shape.
Pshaw Perchie! I been invited! Doing well 21Hens. I still visit you guys to read up, but not much to contribute anymore being way down south here now. Had a good chuckle reading about your hen's butt in your face episode... No emojis so can't input the laughing toon... Hope all is well with the...
If they don't start soon, it will most likely be late February/early March. Mine were end of May chicks and only about 1/2 of them started in that year. The rest waited till spring. (I started with 32 pullet chicks; BO/BA/NH/WW). Good luck and hope you find a couple of early Christmas eggs!
Hey Laura, welcome to the wonderful world of chicken integration. Some questions: 1. Square footage of the inside of the coop? 2. Square footage inside the run? 3. linear length of roost space? 4. Type/breed of birds and LF or Bantam? Each LF bird should have a minimum of 4-6 square feet of...
Thanks all. Yeah, I spent a few years in NE Florida, similar latitude, so I know it's not all sunshine and bathing suits. They DO get snow, and ice storms there, though rare. And it will dip below freezing a few times for short periods. I'm not getting rid of any winter clothing. The home has a...
So we had a couple of weeks with milder fall temps... 70s-80s, and I took out the swamp cooler and turned off the water supply. So of course what happens? We now have temps in the high 90s, and they're gonna stick around for a while. I guess I shouldn't complain too much. In a week I'll be...
Welcome to MY world! At least yours don't think they're turtles and bury them! That's a LOT of eggs though... how many hens contributed to the pile? How long is the million dollar question!
Greetings @luckied ! Welcome to BYC and the Colorado thread. There's actually a few folks down south towards the springs, OK, actually there's folks on here from all over. Don't be afraid of the computer, it's a link for you to whatever you may need. Glad you stopped in for a visit. Hope you'll...
Hey there @GoldenMamaHen Welcome to BYC and the Colorado thread! So sorry you ended up with a roo you can't keep. It's really a shame that all these towns "allow" you to have a couple of chickens, but no roos, so no way to reproduce your own... I'm leaving CO later this month for TX and rural...
So I normally sleep with the bedroom window open and a fan blowing in fresh air. Yesterday evening it was rather cool and windy so I left the fan out but kept the window open. This morning I was plenty warm under the covers but when I got out of bed it was COLD in there! So I did my thing and...
All you need to do is loose awareness once and his "challenge" could lead to your blood shed. I know from experience. I had a BA roo who I had beaten many times, so he knew what would happen if he tried anything "stupid". So one morning I went to scoop feed into their trough, and I checked, he...
