Naomi tried to get her chicks on the roost this evening. I walked out to the coops to make sure they were secure before dark. I heard the panicked peeping, then saw the reason why.
There were three who managed to get up on the roost with her, about 4' up. The others were circling below, trying...
I moved "C" egg and "D" egg from the incubator to Rahab this evening, was lightly pecked. She's now sitting on "A", "B", and the two I added tonight. Four eggs remain in the incubator. Day 13.
Sat in the second coop for a spell, taking pictures, talking to chicks. They're not as skittish around me.
Naomi is doing a wonderful job...

(after stuffing herself with the chicks' mash)
Silas may not be "standard", but he's gorgeous!
I just removed from under Rahab the two faux eggs and one that someone must have laid today, exchanging two live ones from the incubator. Rahab gave me a light peck on my hand.
I was able to check on my flocks after I got home from church, but now it's pouring again, windy. All poultry accounted for.
I candled all 8 of the incubator eggs last night, saw movement in the majority. I was so excited that I forgot to count how many, but I did think to draw a checkmark on...
Thank you.
I hope you're hunkered down. Storm made landfall in SC but is headed north.
We had a couple downpours yesterday afternoon. I was in the second coop when the skies opened. Naomi ran to the back and called her chicks. They ran under her as she spread her wings and settled down over...
Yes. She didn't seem overly interested in eating yesterday, but did scarf a few BOSS. She slept in the nesting box, that's where I saw her at 6am, very much alive. That's where I found her, around 11.
And the beat goes on...and the beat goes on...
First watermelon, they looked as if they were drinking it!
Pink (far left) gives me girly vibes.
Purple (and blue) say "cockerel" to me.
Time to give them new ziptie anklets, they're growing fast.
We tried.

Thank you to everyone for recommendations, suggestions, advice.
When I found her about 11am she was still warm, but definitely gone. I checked under her wing. No smell, no discharge, nothing to indicate a problem.
There's an old expression "The treatment was a success, but...
Tamar died sometime between 6am and 11am.
:hit
She was lowest in the pecking order, but still managed to be a broody mom to Joanna (left) & unnamed cockerel last year.
Rahab was out with the others this afternoon, but she's back in the box for the night.
:fl
Rahab was the hen who raised chicks last year, she did a great job. I'd love for her to hatch the Sussex eggs.
