I had a chick badly injured that way, though the perpetrator was the rooster.

What a good broody! My Martha stayed an extra three days and successfully handled a staggered hatch. She can hatch again next year if she's so inclined.

On a similar note: Somehow Rahab wound up with Tamar's chicks as well as her own! I liked how she didn't go after them. Everyone is back with the correct momma this evening. :cool:

They also have an abysmal adoption rate for their shelters. A few years ago PETA workers were caught on camera going onto someone's porch and stealing their dog, which they then euthanized. I wouldn't give them the time of day. Tax: Zacchaeus, aka Zack, is growing up!

The bantams are so small, I just don't see it being worth the time and energy to clean them.

I'm looking to add the next generation of pullets, to keep the flock going, and eggs coming. The current hens are keeping my lone cockerel in check, reminding him of his place, though he's only 8 weeks old. I might keep a second cockerel from the latest hatch, as long as they can get along...
