Is anybody using the American Bresse chicken to sell as whole or pieced out at Farmers Markets? Everybody that I'm aware of who sells chicken at the market raises cornish cross. I'm curious if anybody is having any luck with a more heritage breed of bird. If you're not selling Cornish Cross...
I grow microgreens to sell at farmers markets. I get lots of Coco coir waste. It has seeds, seed hulls and mostly Coco coir. Even when wet, when outside, it dries very fast. My run is so dry and not stinky, it's more dusty.
If you're not using it for gardening, you can find coir in blocks...
My hatches this year consisted of quail eggs that were from my own flock. The numbers are as follows.
1st - 95 eggs set: 84 Fertile: 64 hatched = 67% total and 76% fertile hatched
2nd - 107 eggs set: 97 Fertile: 74 hatched = 69% total and 76% fertile hatched
3rd - 120 eggs set: 107...
I built mine for less than $100 and can hatch about 82 eggs at a time with auto turners.
I've had 240 quail eggs in there at once with 120 hatching weekly.

Your build is similar to mine but, mine is a little more controlled. I have a SHT2000 controller that handles temp and humidity. They're about $24 on amazon. I use small ceramic heaters from Wal-Mart because, they're cheap and just 2 wires to cut and connect to controller. I'll post a link...
I ordered my meat bird shrink bags from Amazon. I've gotten different types for 3 consecutive years and thought that 1 of them were good but, this years bags were the best I've used and I will be buying them for every year going forward. I just wanted to put it out and make the suggestion, if...
I used that very incubator for 2 batches of chickens and quail. They are very unreliable and inconsistent. There are upgrades to make them forced air but, I ended up building my own for about $100. I still use the egg turner from the Little Giant but, everything else is mine and had great...
I can't tell from the information that you've given but, I would presume that it is an incubator issue. You should have had, at least, some hatch with 39 fertile eggs in the incubator. Guessing, at this point, I would think that the temperature is too low or very inconsistent. What type of...
Especially, in the still air foam incubators, it is important to place your thermometer/temp sensor over the top of the eggs. Even with a turner in there. You want the ambient temperature just above the eggs to average around 100 deg F. That way, the eggs should be above 99 but, below 100 deg...
After getting only 3 out of 12 eggs to hatch, I wasn't very happy with the variance of colors that hatched of the 3. 1 each of a blue, black and a splash. So, I am giving it another go. I ordered another 12 Blue Orpington hatching eggs from the same seller. They've been in the incubator...
Well, out of the 12 eggs purchased from the eBay sale, I've got 3 babies hatched. It appears to be 1 blue, 1 splash and 1 black, as of now. Out of the 8 from my own flock, 4 have hatched. It looks like 2 lavender Orpingtons, another mixed color with my birds (I've got 3 lavender Orpington...
If your egg turner is the kind that just rolls them on their side, you will probably be fine. Will just be a little messier to clean off the turner afterwards. However, if its a turner where they stand up on the pointy end, you'll want to take them out and lay on their side. This is so the...
I feel as though I'm a rarity but, I don't disturb eggs until I'm moving them to lockdown. I have 12 blue orpington eggs in the incubator that will be moved to lockdown tomorrow, day 18. I'm anxious to find out the development of them. Got a great deal on the eggs and I'll be content with 50%...
You could build a small wooden cabinet incubator for less than $100 and it will be more reliable than any of the store bought incubators that I've come across. It is pretty simple, honestly.
Monday, June 22nd, the eggs have been in the incubator for 14 days. I won't candle until Friday, day 18, when I move them to lock down. They've been in the turners and uninterrupted for the entire time with consistent heat and humidity. Humidity has been a little high because of the outside...
If your meat birds are the standard Cornish Cross birds, you're going to have some very large birds after 10 weeks. When I order, I buy only hens. They tend to grow a little slower and don't eat nearly as much as the male birds. I process after they've turned 8 weeks old. My birds were...
The only problem I see is the reliability of that fan. Not sure how it will handle constant temps near 100 degrees and high humidity. I like to use case fans for a computer. You can mount them with small shelf brackets for just a couple dollars and powered with a cell phone charger. They are...
If they're truly the quality birds they claim, a <50% hatch will be worth it. Eggs were only 12/$25 with shipping. Proving at different places puts babies at $25-$35 each.
