What useful crosses can I make?

Sorry for the delay,I was working a lot outside because the rain let up and storms had knocked down lots of green leaves and branches. Thanks for all the very useful info you've all added. I'm going to have to read through it again to absorb it all, but I really appreciate it. The dark gray...

What useful crosses can I make?

Sorry for the delay. Bubba is about 27 weeks old. He is supposedly from a Tennessee line, though he was rejected for breeding stock. I got him from Rhode Island at about 8 weeks. The honeymoon suite is a prefab coop and three cattle panels arched to make a run with hardware cloth around the...

What useful crosses can I make?

I have one smaller coop and run totally enclosed with cattle panels, and one big coop 12'*10'+5'*5' attached to a 200' perimeter electric poultry netting run. All the chickens are currently in the large coop and run. I would assume it takes a few weeks to clear any residual semen from the...

Thanks ! I was wondering if what I assumed were white rocks were actually rhode island white and if they are would that make a difference in white vs silver? I got the white male and females all in a mixed heavy females box from cackle (who sells rhode island white). The red females came in...

    Black Copper Marans Roo Integration

I have a new addition to my flock of 6 pullets age 11-13 weeks. I got a Black Copper Marans Cockerel about 8-9 weeks old and it seems the pullets are really picking on him. How much is too much? There is a tiny bit of blood. In 1 hour the 6 pullets did the damage over his rear end (actually...

Problems with neighbours - good suggestions?

This should be in "predators and PESTS" as it has nothing to do with managing your flock. ;)

Coop for 30 free range chickens

I started construction. The costs have exceeded my initial intent. I bought a good amount of wood and some specialized hardware. Dimensions will be 10x12 with a 5x6 shed on the east side open to the larger section. So it has a total of 150sqft of floor area. The roof slopes down toward the...

Coop for 30 free range chickens

ReStore in Wallingford is small and has no lumber, but I bought some nails. The clerk told me that other stores may have more construction materials especially Bloomfield and (IIRC) Stratford. I joined freecycle.org and put out there that I am looking for lumber and construction materials.

Snagged 28 HT pallets today. More available if needed, trying to find plans I can build with the wood from the pallets as they are not all the same size and a few have damage. I'll check out the REstore in Wallingford today when we go visit my in-laws. There is also one in Cromwell that...
