    Sourcing

Not sure what others focus on or have concerns about, but thought it might be good to share products/sources, for a few reasons. #1- we might come across products that others might have never thought/heard of, or be curious about but reluctant to take a chance on. So this is a good way to get...

    🙋🏼‍♀️

Hi, all! Scanning through and happy not to see anyone reporting cases of H5N1 in their guineas! I did some digging around, and the only reported case I've found in the US for goons was at a live market in NY in 2022. NY cont. to have issues at live markets, but not in guinea. Authorities...

    Checking In

After years of @R2elk saying I didn't have enough guineas for a proper confusion, I thought I'd pop in to let him know that I am properly confused now. So much so that I have difficulty remembering who's who and some stragglers still unnamed. 23 in total, and an absolute delight. Not all are...

    Community nest too much

5 hens, 5 males..one huge nest and Numi is only one brooding. I pulled 10 early on, 2 weren't fertilized, 8 are on day #13. Some still drop an egg where ever, but Numi can't possibly cover the number of eggs she's on. So- I know it's not correct, but I pulled 12 more last night and added to...

It's that time of year again!!

So I had a brief conversation that I shouldn't have had about genetics. Shouldn't have had because I got lost after the 3rd word, I think. I used that calculator just to see what it said I would end up with, but it's limited. Example, if you put in the options for a blonde, you'll get...

Guinea fowl white face turned yellow

Someone asked this years ago then didn't follow up. Picture from that bird : A friend has this with 2 older goons now. Has anyone seen or dealt with this? The most I can find is that a toxin in onions destroys RBCs and can cause this, but seems like you'd have very sickly birds at that point.

    Feathers

I know I've mentioned before re the one white feather. This is Gabby. She now has what appears to be feathers outlined in white. I can tell her apart from her sister bc Echo doesn't have it. But that's not why I'm posting. She made getting a picture as diff as possible, but in addition to the...

    ZURI

Heh, remember me? "Little Dummy"? Aka Zuri? Mom took new pictures today-I finally have some color coming in! Oh, if you're wondering, yeah, I still bite, have the fierce determination if a snapping turtle...sigh, and Mom still laughs, "asking, "what are you doing, Little Dummy?"

    Semi-Pearled Attenuate?

Need help with definition. "Attenuate" is weakened or watered down, semi - partially.. But I'm confused by GFA's "Solid (Semi Pearled Attenuate)", listing Vi, Cop & Lite Sky as examples? Anyway - Zuri the Unknown Guinea has been identified. Jess Farmer Lee identified, explaining that blonde...

    Experimenting w/Bullies

So we know if we have A bully, we're to remove him/her for a days to rebalance hierarchy of flock. But when you have gangs and sub-gangs, that won't work. I know, bigger flock, less struggles. But that's not happening at this moment, so I have to sort out the 10 that I have. So last night, I...

    Numi's unwell-I think?

Her crop is not bloated, squishy or smelly, she feels deflated. I noticed her drinking a lot of water before bed last night and again this a.m. but didn't come for treats last night -millet - or today- herbs. I let her out on her own and she was pecking in the yard then had a bm that was soft...

    Winterizing

I know there are 50,000 threads on winterizing. I still want advice. Once the keets were gone, the remaining 10 all moved into the old coop on their own. So I get a new garden shed, what evs. I've cleaned all the sand out of the shed and distributed it between the run, the coop, and the "sun...

    New Confusion Begins

All of Numi's keets went to a new home yesterday. I was kind of dreading that. I was ready for them to go, but - When I sold the remaining of Mama's keets last year, I swear that hen went into a funk that lasted until this spring. Mb it was the trauma they went through beforehand & losing...

    Broken Beak

There's a saying for humans, bad things happen in 3's. I'm hoping we can keep it to 2 for guineas. I've been letting the 3 jumbos out during the day. There are field tiles between our property & the actual crop. They aren't allowed to do anything there except mow once a yr. Apparently...

    Guinea behavior

For awhile I thought Brodie was picking on one particular keet, bc the keet would let out blood curdling screams. When I'd look, the keet would be running in between Brodie's feet and under him, but Brodie wasn't reacting. Further watching assured me that Brodie wasn't picking on it. The...

    Why owls are so deadly

Aside from the fact that guineas can't see in the dark, when it comes to owls, they can't hear, either.
