I have owned 5 beagles in my lifetime, the girls were very intelligent, the boys not so much.
If beagles are indoors & part of the family you have a much different dog. Beagles are scent driven and are used to hunt rabbits, so chicken smells do not elicit a prey drive. Beagles love being pack...
I would just like to point out again the generosity of the person who rescued Mabel. We know how much money has probably been spent on Mabel's behalf, an obvious unplanned expense. Hats off to you for taking on this homeless hen, I think she's in good hands now.
Beagles are hunting dogs but they have a very strong pack instinct. My beagle is afraid of my 2 hens (after a few pecks on the nose).
The most important pack members eat first, so if you get a dog make sure he is always fed after the hens. My cats are always fed before the dogs. If we bring in...
Love the name! I have 2 hens named Mildred & Louise. My first piece of advice is to quarantine Mabel's new friends. I know you are anxious to give Mabel a flock, but please take the time to ensure the new members are disease-free.
I agree. We have a mixed breed dog & when people ask the breed I say M-U-T-T, spelling it so she doesn't hear the derogatory term. I need to drop that word
I have a hen going through her first molt with current daytime temp 27. I left the Cozy Coop radiant heater on & she goes in & out of coop as she needs. Why do they molt in winter?
Hello f
Hello from 2hotchicks. I got my first (and only) ladies in September 2019. My first concern in getting 2 pullets in the fall in Indiana was keeping them warm. However, it turned out to be an unseasonably warm fall & heat was a problem, thus "2hotchicks."
I live in town & we are all allowed to keep up to 4 hens. My 2 ladies are absolutely my pets. They will get the same care whether or not they are giving me eggs. We don't eat our pets & that definitely includes my 2 hens
Good luck to you!
