I have FINALLY come across an idea that works perfectly to keep wild birds from eating all of my ducks' food! I have an abundance of wild birds that love to finish the feed before the ducks even get a chance to eat. I was going to buy an automatic feeder (treadle feeder) but since I only have...
The vet could not find any red blood cells in Cielo's dropping after putting it under a microscope, so the conclusion was drawn that this red like colour was from the watermelon that I have been giving them I guess a little too often
UPDATE: I came back from the vet (after a very tiring day of finding a vet that can actually treat ducks) and turns out there is nothing to worry about and my ducks are completely healthy!! I guess I just assume the worst when it comes to these things, I guess its better safe than sorry!
I do practice the very best hygiene I can give to my ducks since I am very paranoid of what could happen. They always have access to clean water to drink and bathe in and I clean the bedding where they sleep every day. Both my ducks look and act pretty healthy which is why this confused me at...
Thank you Laura,
I have been worried about this ever since I saw the droppings, it has no faeces in it, just looks like mince meat which is very concerning. I'm so glad I have finally discovered what this could be. I am waiting for the vet to open and I will ring first thing in the morning. 🙏
Just thought I'd add that Cielo looks completely healthy, eats normally and is social as always, however, these mince meat like droppings are the only symptom I am noticing but it dramatic enough for me to draw the conclusion of coccidiosis
Within the last two weeks I have found what looks like a pink/red mucus/mince on the floor amongst the duck droppings. I have researched for a while but I couldn't find any answers for what this is. Today I read about coccidiosis and the first image that came up looks similar to what I am...
At first I didn't mind feeding the birds because I enjoy seeing them too, but I definitely don't want them all up in the duck food leaving their droppings and finishing the food before the ducks get to it
So I've gathered that my duck feed is eaten more by wild birds than the ducks! I keep the ducks' food and water in their coop but I leave the door open so they can enter and exit to eat and drink throughout the day, however, this means that the wild birds that come to my backyard do the exact...
Here is a short video I have taken a few days ago, it doesn't really capture the difference between their voices too well so I will take another soon. Cielo (left) has a little more of a raspy voice, no quack. While Cariño (right) isn't really quacking loud in this video, but you can hear hints...
Well they are going through their first molt now. It started a few days ago and scared me when I first saw the abundance of feathers in the backyard. How many juvenile molts are there? Does it occur yearly after this?
