Within the last two weeks I have found what looks like a pink/red mucus/mince on the floor amongst the duck droppings. I have researched for a while but I couldn't find any answers for what this is. Today I read about coccidiosis and the first image that came up looks similar to what I am seeing. I believe this is coming from Cielo, my potential male duck, as his stomach often makes quite loud grumbling sounds, I can even feel the movement of his stomach when I am holding him. Once when the two ducks were sitting on my lap on a white towel, I had noticed a brush of brownish red colour that came from Cielo, I just assumed it was faeces left on his feathers but the colour concerned me a bit. I have not acted upon this yet because I could not find an answer to what it was until now. I think the cause must be the wild birds that have been feasting on the duck food before I eventually changed to allocated feeding times, as they may poop in their food and the duck could potentially be eating it and contract whatever disease they may have. Should I go to the vet about this?? I am going to call in the morning since they are all closed but are there any at home remedies for treatment of coccidiosis if that is what Cielo has?

Just thought I'd add that Cielo looks completely healthy, eats normally and is social as always, however, these mince meat like droppings are the only symptom I am noticing but it dramatic enough for me to draw the conclusion of coccidiosis

Some of my chooks have had Coccidiosis before. It's mainly caused because of fowls eating their (or another flock members) poop. It can also be caused by eating some form of wood (like wood shavings). It's best to isolate the poorly duck(s) away from other flock members as it is quite contagious. It is a disease that, (if not acted on) can kill. Be careful!
Call the vet and inform about blood in droppings. Then they might sell you a medicine called 'Baytox Poultry'. I believe it can work on ducks too (not 100% sure though).
Hope this helps!!!!! Prayers for you and Cielo!!!🙏:love
P.S. The disease kills by bacteria 'eating' the insides of the (water) fowl.:sick:sick:sick

Thank you Laura,
I have been worried about this ever since I saw the droppings, it has no faeces in it, just looks like mince meat which is very concerning. I'm so glad I have finally discovered what this could be. I am waiting for the vet to open and I will ring first thing in the morning. 🙏

Amazing glll! Glad I could be of assistance!☺😍👍:woot

Ducks are generally very healthy and usually don't get many diseases unless there are poor management practices, clean water and food are essential, If there are droppings in the food you may want to switch to a different feeder style such as a PVC pipe feeder or a weight-activated feeder. Plenty of bathing water and clean bedding is also essential to their health.

Please let us know what the vet says. :fl

I do practice the very best hygiene I can give to my ducks since I am very paranoid of what could happen. They always have access to clean water to drink and bathe in and I clean the bedding where they sleep every day. Both my ducks look and act pretty healthy which is why this confused me at first. I have recently been looking into the weight activated feeders due to the influx of wild birds feasting and leaving their germs in the duck feed, but I have not made the change yet. Now looking further into coccidiosis I am definitely taking both ducks to the vet once they open (it is 6am rn). I will let you know what the result is!

Ok great! Sorry if my post came off being critical of your management practices, I can definitely tell you want the best for your ducks. The vet should be able to test there poop for coccidiosis through fecal flotation. Best of Luck!

No, not at all, I’m just trying to figure out how this came about until I see the vet. Thank you!
