This morning I found my black hen, CoCo, dead, on her side in the nesting box. I was reading previous threads and people suggested if their comb was a dark purple, it might be a heart attack. In my girl's case, her comb and wattle were very pale. She has a pretty red set usually.
***Edit***
She is still less than a year old and only started laying maybe two months ago.
She wasn't showing any signs of issues the last few days. I am pretty sure she was laying ok. I'm not exactly sure who's eggs are who's for some of them. But I was going by count. I had 5 hens and I'd get about 5 eggs a day. Some days 4. Her egg looks pretty similar to the Buff Orpington's eggs. Kind of a pale off-white color. And they were about the same size too.
I did notice a mite problem currently, which I am treating. None of the chickens seem to have mites on them, just in the coop. She did have mites on her dead body.

Sorry about losing your hen. Mites cause anemia. If you saw mites, I would treat all of your birds with permethrin garden dust or 0.5% spray. Remove all bedding from coop, and nests, and then use permethrin to spray the roosts, nest boxes and coop before adding new bedding. If you still have the body you could keep it cold and have the state vet do a necropsy on her to look for a cause of death. Here is a list of state vets:

I know the local co-op has a spray that is supposed to be for chickens. Last year I used DE in the coop and didn't have too many problems. They just recently sprang up now that it's staying warm.

I use the Martins or Gordons Permethrin 10 concentrate that has to be mixed with water 5 ml into a quart of water. That can be added to a spray bottle to spray chickens or a garden sprayer for the coop. Tractor Supply has those or you can get them online. A pint is about $12, and makes many gallons of diluted spray.

Thanks. I'll have to look for the one I mix up myself. I got a spray bottle and did the entire coop and run with it. Got the ladies a little too. Was my quickest option to start tackling the issue right away since I have work and all.
The bottle I got says to re-apply every 28 days. I'm wondering how often others spray?
I never had to use this in the past. DE was enough. I swear a few days ago there was nothing, then they just exploded.
