Everybody's flowers are so beautiful! I don't have any in bloom yet unless you count dandelions and some sort of vines. I also have some sort of tree that's blooming. Looking forward to seeing everybody's beautiful flowers!
The second last chick fell in the water and drowned. This is baffling, considering that the water pan is really shallow. The remaining chick whose splayed legs were corrected went back in the brooder with the other chicks and is integrating well. So out of four, three died and one got fixed.
Remaining splay leg chick got out of the sling today and is relearning how to use his legs. The other splay leg chick, who's all fixed up now, is keeping him company since both of the wry neck chicks died. So only two out of the four are still alive. But they are doing pretty well although after...
The weather has been all over the place! Just a little over a week ago it was snowing and now I'm wearing a tank top and its 26 degrees C. Chickens and cats both despise it.
One of the splay leg chicks went back into the brooder (there were four, two with splay leg, one with wry neck, and one with both splay leg and wry neck. The splay leg and wry neck one died). I'll check on the remaining one plus the wry neck one. I'm supplementing their Vitamin E with a bit of...
Lesson for future: never go to a hatchery. Not even to buy eight chicks.
Owing to my abysmal hatch rate, I decided to go get some Russian Orloff to complement my flock. They're unsexed so I might get some roosters. For $8 each it was a better price than Peavey mart ever had. The guy showed me...
I'm also giving electrolyte brand name Poul Vite from peavey before it shut down, that should have B and selenium, right? Wry neck chick couldn't eat. So I opened its beak, put crumble on its tongue, it swallowed, rinse and repeat.
Found another one with wry neck and another splay legged one. So now it's four of them sitting in half peanut butter jars around a peanut butter lid containing food like four old friends going out for dinner.
Still giving the wry neck chicks vitamin E supplement. No change with the splay legged...
I used a seedling heat mat, cut a peanut butter jar in half (they're plastic) so it isn't too high, covered the inside of the box with that reflective bubble wrap so it reflects the heat back at them. That turned out to be too hot so I removed it. I'll take them out this morning see if they can...
First chick that hatched is having leg problems. It looks like splayed leg, but when I put him upright he falls over on his back all the time. His head also keeps moving in circles. The parents had breeder ration and lots of chicks that hatched in my incubator never had splayed leg. None of the...
I would like to do it but I'm just starting with art and literally can't do anything without the video to help me. Maybe next year. This sounds really fun and I like to draw but I can't draw anything without my trusty video to help me out.
So my chicks finally hatched and one of them is having problems. His legs are stuck out to the side (splay leg most likely) but what I'm concerned about is when he's upright his head goes up as high as it can and he behaves like he can't move it. He also keeps falling over. Is the lack of...
