Hi!
Incubate day 18 just started (as of 7:30pm about four hours ago) and a couple of eggs are jiggling. For some reason my Incuview doesn't count time correctly, and here we are, but the turner hasn't turned off automatically yet. I had originally planned to turn it off tomorrow morning and...
This was mine yesterday (day 14). No more development than on day ten, no movement, and I started seeing broken blood vessels in the middle of the darker section and the other half of the egg candled clear, so it wasn't filling out the egg anymore. I discarded it.
There's farm in New Castle that sells lavender orp chicks and hatching eggs (among others). I've been hoping to get a dozen to hatch out, but they're 1.5hrs from me.
The email they have listed on facebook is [email protected].
It's more developed than when I checked last (day 9 or 10) and this is what it looks like day 12 (tonight). I did mark it so I guess I can check again in a couple of days.
Hi all.
Is this a blood ring? There's no movement. I candled it again after I went through all the other eggs and no reaction to the light.
Thanks. Second incubate so I'm still working out what these look like.
Originally didn't want to keep any roos, but does now.
It's hard because she's doing the day to day work whereas I'm 10-15 minutes away and can only go out there occasionally to help out with bigger projects. I'm helping out with feed and I'm also support if she needs it.
I think gout was...
This isn't a current issue, more looking into it for the future. Backstory is, I got four blue copper maran chicks and two were roos and two were hens. My friend and I have been building a flock together at her place since I can't have chickens on my property (City ordinance and HOA both ban...
What a cutie!
My little ones have gold/black/white fluff coloring, but so far are feathering out black and white. I tell them apart by their head and beak markings. Shelley is easy because s/he lost most fluff in the egg (it lost 16-17% mass during incubation instead of 12-15%) because it stuck...
I candled my first batch on days 6, 12, and 18 before lockdown. I like candling them a little more, but not too much. I also weigh the eggs on the first day and on candling days.
Just appreciating my little flock of eleven. They're a couple days shy of two weeks and they such good lil punks.
Golden boy here is Apollo. He's a leghorn and I'm 98% sure he's a he. He's a little standoffish, unless scrambled eggs is involved, in which case he is the NBA all-star jumper. He...
Ever since the grit issue, I've been watching them to see them poop and one of them just produced this. I've never seen them poop foamy before. Is it normal? I checked the poo chart, and I'm not sure. And searching turned up that the chick might have cocci?
On a scale of 1 to paranoid... 😭 I...
I had ordered chick grit from Amazon and got delivered poultry grit. I opened the bag and realized it was poultry grit when I saw the size of the pieces. I closed the bag and put it to the side and my 3yo opened the bag and fed some to my week old chicks. I think only a small handful, but I...
I was kind of wondering since I've seen all kinds of stuff about DE (but it has to be the right kind) and wood ash (what do you do if you don't have wood ash? Go burn stuff for ash?) and sand and peat moss, etc. But also, some of those aren't for chicks. -_-
Good to know that ye olde dirt...
I tried the wetted feed--they weren't fans. Silly chickies! I have a patch of invasive chick grit that I might sod strip a 6"x12" piece from for them once they're a few days older. They're incredibly only 3-4 days old today! They're extremely hearty and active chicks, though. I think it's mostly...
