The Not So Secret Society of Chicken Keepers

My boy is soo loud, he crows all the time. Even when we get up at 3am to go hunting he hears us and wakes the ladies up with his crowing. Also anytime the girls sing the egg song, he has to sing along too (part of why we decided on Luke) 😂🤦‍♀️ And he leads them into our woods when free ranging...

    Tips on finding missing chicken

I am sorry you can't find your hen. I grew up having chickens on a farm, when I was kid/teenager we had over a 120 at one time. Normally when one of them would go missing and wouldn't be wandering around the chicken area the next morning when we got up, we knew what happened, sadly. Sometimes...

How to stop my chick from making a mess

I had the same problem with my hen Flint. Put a small section of a 2x4 at the opening of the nest box - she will not be able to kick the bedding out of the nest box. Also if you are using pine shavings as bedding, switch to straw my hen didn't feel the need to kick that around as much.

Thank you! I have been a big fan sense I was a teenager! 😂 I meant gender wise 🥰 Than I hope it's a girl! 🥰 If I ever hatch eggs I would probably hope for girls too, we can only keep Luke, and he's enough of a handful.

Someone gave my mother 4 Roos yesterday

7?! Wow! I have never heard of a chicken having 7 toes on one foot. Normal chickens have 4 toes, some breeds (like silkies) have 5 because that's there breed, anything past that is probably a deformity he was born with. They could still be Silkie mix but not have the extra toe gene.

Thank you everyone for being so welcoming. Kind people on the internet are hard to find these days. Even in the other threads, everyone takes my advice into consideration even though I am very new.

Oh I see what you mean, I would say they are all part Silkie and they do look a bit like cochin bantams. Do they have 5 toes or 4?

    We've got an egg-eater on our hands...😤

I would doubt that they are smashing them in the nest boxes because hens are designed to brood eggs. Some egg eaters can't be broken but it's always a good idea to provide more calcium in their diet just incase they are not getting enough of it. My Buff Orpington, Dusty, once was an egg eater. I...
